Robert Castlebary spent his career as an electrical engineer working in music and television design, holding several patents along the way. That background — blending technical precision with a deep understanding of sound and audio equipment — carries directly into his work today.

Now retired, Robert has spent the last decade handcrafting Native American style flutes, applying the same rigor and precision that defined his engineering career. Rather than tuning by ear, Robert uses mathematical calculations to achieve accurate, consistent tuning on every flute — a rare approach that reflects his engineering background as much as his craftsmanship.

Under the name Yuba Flutes, Robert continues to build each instrument individually, combining traditional flute-making techniques with an engineer's precision for tone and pitch. Every flute that leaves his shop is the result of careful measurement, patient work, and a genuine love for the instrument's voice.
